I like to keep it simple. You lightly toast some white or rye bread and stack up your favorite deli meats and cheeses — I like to use ham, turkey, sharp cheddar and provolone — and put this in your microwave, gas, or electric oven until the meat’s nice and warm and the cheese is melted down. You put this stack on the lukewarm toasted bread, put cold mustard, a leaf of lettuce, some salt, pepper, and pickles, and you have a crunchy sandwich that bites you back juuust a little. For those that like the stuff, add olives and jalapenos.
Ketchup will ruin this sandwich like crazy. Don’t even go there.
